Foil High Aspect = maior carga nos mastros

Durante as fases iniciais de teste das ART, a nossa equipa de pesquisa chegou à conclusão de que aspect ratios maiores e asas com maior wingspan foram uma revolução mesmo para os mastros já existentes e que havia ainda um grande potencial por explorar.

E assim começou todo um novo projeto de desenvolvimento, e não poderíamos estar mais entusiasmados com o resultado. Com um novo perfil poderoso e com um seleção cuidada de materiais e do seu uso, o AXIS Power Carbon tem uma rigidez e resistência superiores.

Optando por um design de peça única, evitamos o atrito e qualquer problema associado com uma construção com várias peças. Além disso e mais importante ainda, os testes provaram que a carga máxima está concentrada perto da base plate e é por essa razão que o mastro é mais espesso nesta zona para poder suportar mais pressão. Redesenhamos também a conexão à fuselagem para maximizar o tamanho do ponto de conexão para alcançar um encaixe perfeito e reduzir qualquer hipótese de movimentos indesejados.

O resultado é uma sensação de conexão positiva e direta, com um feedback imediato e um controlo absoluto. Foils high aspect têm um comportamento como deve ser e o controlo entra num novo domínio.

A nova fibra de carbono High Modulus usada é consideravelmente mais rígida e resistente que a fibra de vidro usada nos mastros convencionais. Um uso inovador, ponderado e equilibrado dos materiais no nosso processo de construção emparelhado com testes rigorosos traduziu-se num enorme avanço em termos de performance.

O feedback dos nossos team riders é comum: “uma sensação positiva de ligação ao foil”, “feedback imediato” e “controlo absoluto”, e os vários recordes que foram quebrados pelos nossos team riders nos últimos tempos são a prova disso.

Os novos mastros estão disponíveis em dois modelos: Power Carbon e Power Carbon – High Modulus, sendo que o último tem uma resistência adicional e 35% mais de resistência à torção que o nosso mastro de alumínio de 19mm, que é a referência em toda a indústria. O mastro Hugh Modulus é a escolha para a maioria dos riders à procura da maior performance possível e de riders mais pesado usando as asas com maior wingspan.

The AXIS ART high aspect foil range was the single biggest foiling advancement to date. It delivered more speed, more glide and razor-sharp turning with industry-leading ease of ride.

But 2022 is the year of the mast. The AXIS Power Carbon mast.

Whether winging at speed, laying deep carves on a wave face or pumping and linking up swells on a downwinder – AXIS Power Carbon enters a new realm of control and connection between board and foil.

It’s the next giant leap in foiling performance. And once again it’s brought to you by AXIS.

High aspect foils = higher loads on masts

During early ART foil testing, our research team quickly realized that higher aspect ratios and broader foil spans applied more bending and twisting forces to the mast. So while ART foils were a game-changer even on our existing masts, we knew there was still huge untapped potential to be realized.

And so began a whole new development project, and we couldn’t be more excited at the result. With a new power profile and carefully considered material selection and placement, AXIS Power Carbon delivers both superior stiffness with next-level strength.

Opting for a one-piece design, we avoided the flow/drag and jointing issues associated with multi-part mast constructions.

Additionally and more importantly, testing proves that maximum loading is concentrated close to the baseplate and this is why the mast tapers thicker at this point to handle the loads. Any joins or two-piece construction at this high load area would destroy the integrity of the mast.

A revised fuselage connection design maximizes the size of the attachment point to achieve a perfect fit to the fuselage reducing any chance of unwanted movement.

The result is a positive connected feel, direct drive, immediate feedback and ultimate control. High aspect foils perform as they should, feel and control enter an entirely new realm.

The new High Modulus Carbon fibre used in our mast layup is considerably stiffer and stronger than the regular carbon fibre used in conventional constructions. Innovative, considered and balanced placement of materials in our proprietary production process paired with rigorous testing has delivered a breathtaking performance leap.

Ride characteristics are so game-changing, that it’s been a struggle to get our team riders to return the prototypes after testing!

Feedback featured claims like ‘a way more positive and connected feel’, ‘immediate feedback’ and ‘ultimate control’.

Choose your Power level

Our new masts are available in two models, the Power Carbon and Power Carbon – High Modulus, the latter providing additional strength and 35% more bend resistance than our industry-leading 19mm aluminium mast. The High Modulus will be the mast of choice for the most discerning rider seeking ultimate performance, and heavier riders using our larger span foils.

With AXIS Power Carbon masts, riders will finally be at one with the foil.
